What you will study in Drama?

Students are taught in mixed ability groups.
Students complete controlled assessment in Devised Drama. They will have 2 opportunities to complete this assessment and their best result will be submitted.
Students complete a performance exam of Text in Performance which is examined in the Summer exam series of Year 11
Students complete a written exam about a set text and live theatre performances in the Summer exam series of Year 11
There are no tiers in this GCSE course, all students take the same final exams.
Component 1 - Devised Performance:
Students will submit one Devised performance. They will be assessed on their devising Log (60 marks) and their performance (20marks). This constitutes 40% of the GCSE
There are 2 final examinations at the end of Year 11
Component 2 – Students will complete a written exam. It will assess students’ understanding of: Drama and Theatre terminology and processes (4 marks); one of the set texts (46 marks); and live theatre productions they have seen.
Component 3 - Students will complete a performance exam of Text in Practice. They will be assessed solely on their performance/design (50 marks). This constitutes 20% of the GCSE
Enrichment opportunities, visits and trips
Students will attend Live theatre performances both locally and in the West End.
Where this Qualification Leads
Leads very well onto AQA AS and A Level Drama and Theatre Studies and further study in Drama and performance. Study can support skills in communication, teamwork, analysis, creativity and flexibility, all valued in a range of careers including: Law, Business, Medicine, Teaching, Management, Creative Industries, Leisure and Tourism.
