What will I study in English Language?

Groups and Assessment
Students are taught in mixed ability groups.
Or Students are taught in ability based sets.
As this is a linear course, all examinations will be taken at the end of Year 11. In preparation for these external examinations, students will complete timed responses to exam style questions in controlled conditions once per half term.
Students will complete 3 spoken Language presentations that will be separately accredited.
There are no tiers in this GCSE course, all students take the same final exams.

There are 2 final examinations at the end of year 11
Paper 1 - Explorations in creative reading and writing – 1hr 45 mins – 50% of GCSE
Paper 2 - Writers’ viewpoints and perspectives – 1hr 45 mins – 50% of GCSE
Where this Qualification Leads
GCSE English Language builds students’ skills of analysis and develops their abilities to write for a purpose and with effect. It is a good foundation for any A level course and the skills learnt will be invaluable in the world of work.
