Year 11 – DT Graphic Products
Unit 2: Knowledge and Understanding of Graphic Products (work for the written exam)

Ethical design and manufacture
Health and Safety
Unit 1: Creative Design and Make Activities: Controlled assessment. This project is based around a practical activity and a comprehensive design portfolio.

Groups and Assessment
Groups: Students are taught in mixed ability groups.
Year 10: In March the students have a 1 day exam where they complete a final piece in exam conditions.
Year 11: Controlled assessment takes place during the year and work is assessed continually with feedback on how to improve. Written examinations in December. Ongoing class based testing every half term.
There are no tiers in this GCSE course, all students take the same final exams.
Following the Art Graphic Communication course:
Personal Portfolio coursework: 60%
Externally set assignment: 40%
Final Examinations: There is one final practical examination at the end of Year 11
2 days (10 hours)
Following the DT Graphic Products course:
Controlled Assessment takes place in Year 11: 60%
Final Examinations: Final written exam at the end of Year 11: 40%
Duration: Edexcel: 1 hour 30 minutes
Format: All questions are compulsory and range from very short to extended answers. The paper will also involve a design question where students are required to have drawing equipment to complete the section.
Enrichment opportunities, visits and trips
After school Graphics catch up and support sessions from 3pm Tuesday—Friday
Year 10: In conjunction with Engineering, trip to Disneyland Paris to see commercial graphic design
