Groups and Assessment
Students are taught in mixed ability groups.
Controlled assessment takes place during the year and work is assessed continually with feedback on how to improve. Written examinations in January (year 10) and December (year 11). Ongoing class based testing.
There are no tiers in this GCSE course, all students take the same final exams.
Controlled assessment takes place in both years 10 and 11 and counts for 60% of the final grade.
There is one final written examination at the end of year 11, this counts for 40% of the final grade
Duration: 90 minutes
Format - Five compulsory questions, may include multiple choice, short answer and extended answer questions.

Where this Qualification Leads
Students can use this qualification as a stepping stone to study Computing at A level, and the skills developed strongly support A level Systems and Control, which is one of the Design Technology A levels currently on offer at Heathside.
