What will I study in Physical Education?

Groups and Assessment
Students are taught in ability based sets.
Examination assessment is worth 60% of the qualification.
Non-examined assessment is worth 40% of the qualification.
There are no tiers in this GCSE course, all students take the same final exams.
Controlled Assessment and Final Examinations
Controlled Assessment: 1PE0/3 and 1PE0/2 - Non examined assessment is worth 40% of the qualification. This comprises the practical performance and performance analysis, both of which will be internally assessed and externally moderated.
The 40% controlled assessment is made up of 30% practical assessment (1PE0/03) in three activities (one team activity, one individual activity and a free choice from the DfE’s prescribed list of activities) and 10% performance analysis (1PE0/4).
Final Examinations: There are two final examinations at the end of year 11
Paper 1 – Fitness and Body Systems (1PE0/1) 1 hour 45 minutes, 90 marks, 36% of qualification.
Paper 2 – Health and Performance (1PE0/2) 1 hour 15 minutes, 70 marks, 24% of qualification.

Where this Qualification Leads
Students whom sport plays a major role in their life will enjoy discovering how the human body works when we exercise, and how it copes with the demands of sport and activity. This course is an obvious and strong lead in to the study of Physical Education at A Level, which we offer at Heathside.
Transferable skills – Cognitive skills including problem solving, systems thinking, critical thinking and ICT literacy. Interpersonal skills including communication, relationship building and collaborative problem solving. Intrapersonal skills including adaptability and self-management.
