UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award
I am pleased to announce that we have achieved the first stage of ‘Recognition of Commitment’ (ROC) and we will be aiming towards a Level 1 award in 2018. You can find out more about the UNICEF United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Rights Respecting Schools Award from the RRSA website www.unicef.org.uk/rrsa.
At Heathside School we are committed to building a sustainable ‘rights respecting environment’. The school will effectively promote the values and principles of the ‘United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child’ and use it to underpin our vision for school improvement. Policies and practice have been reviewed with reference to the convention. Above all else the best interests of our children are a top priority in all our actions. The UNICEF Leadership Group, consisting of students from all year groups, will be spearheading this exciting journey to Level 1.
We are developing this approach to build upon our values-based learning, continue our positive cultural development at Heathside School and create an even more harmonious and open atmosphere where everyone involved in the school will be respectful of each other and understand the responsibilities they have to one another and themselves.
UNICEF is the world’s leading organisation working for children and their rights. In 1989, governments worldwide promised all children the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
